MCPS, in partnership with the Montgomery County Public Schools Educational Foundation, Inc., has launched a Hurricane Relief campaign to raise funds for students and families affected by Hurricanes Harvey and Irma.
“We must support all children and help each other in times of crisis,” said Superintendent Jack R. Smith. “MCPS is committed to supporting the victims of hurricanes Harvey and Irma.”
The district’s goal is to raise at least $1 per student to support school districts in Texas and Florida that were affected by the hurricanes. The campaign kicked off on September 7, 2017 and will conclude on October 2, 2017.
MCPS families and community members can support the campaign by submitting donations to their local school or to the Montgomery County Public Schools Educational Foundation, Inc. All donations collected by the Foundation will go to corresponding educational foundations in Texas and Florida.
Kennedy High School is organizing a fundraiser for hurricane relief under the guidance Mr. Kofi Frempong and the students of the Leadership Training Institute Signature Academy. Stay tuned for more information.
Damascus High School is also holding a fundraiser for those affected by the Texas hurricane. The school’s Acts of Random Kindness Club and its sociology class are sponsoring a coin drive through Friday, Sept. 22, with a goal of reaching $500 to donate to the American Red Cross’ disaster relief efforts. Donations can be brought to teacher Robert Dickie’s classroom (#134) at Damascus. Donations can also be made directly to the American Red Cross online. Donations may also be mailed to the Red Cross at the address on their website. For more information, contact Mr. Dickie.
